Thursday, Sept. 5

Yahoo!  Welcome to my class.  I can't wait to communicate with you and teach your child. The agenda should look almost the same as this blog.  Students write out daily homework or expectations at school so they know what to bring home. Parents check blog if for some reason agenda was not able to be written.

Newsletter and plans will be sent home next week.
I take Wednesdays off so Mrs. Kossey will be in teaching SS and Science.
There should not be a lot of homework unless your child really struggles with completing work in class (hence, a plan is developed) or is off task a lot.  I have many expectations in a day at school; students will be mentally tired after school and thus, are not expected to do too much more work.  However, students can always study multiplication facts and read!

We run each morning of the year; if your child cannot run or walk for a period of days, please send a note.

1.  Bring a black Sharpie and a pencil case or Ziplock bag if possible.

Friday, Jan. 11

1.  Skating error!  Sorry, we are only skating on Friday, Jan. 18th, leaving at 12:30, not on Jan. 15 or Jan. 20.  My mistake; I was looking at Mrs. Kossey's other class schedule on our calendar!  Sorry.
2.  Grammar sheets- 2 should be done. Lots of time in class.
3.  Math- pg 175- optional to work on more questions or wait until Monday.  Calculators are only permitted for making guesses as part of the steps within the questions.  Students must still show all work. WE are going between long and short division.  They should understand how to do both.  Students who still have not memorized multiplication facts will find short division harder.
4.  Hot dog orders, Scholastic orders and Science Project permission forms are due Monday.  It is a good idea to buy a Display board for your Science Project soon. This will visually remind and motivate your child.  Gathering background info. off the computer can be very helpful, if not required, in order to do a project. Also, your child can ask me for any paper, colored paper, glue, and other supplies and I will do my best to round them up.
5.  McGowan Carnival night:  Our class is supposed to bring in any Movie theme "stuff" in order to help the parents put together a Movie basket for fund raising.  Items I might suggest include:  New DVDs, used DVDs wrapped in saran wrap, Paramount or Odeon gift certificates, packs of licorice, chocolate, smarties, candy, 12 pack pop or 2 litre pop, money to put toward gift cards, big bags of popcorn or chips, popcorn packets, packs of gum.  We will collect for a few weeks. Thanks for helping the PAC!!

Thursday 10 January 2013

Thursday, Jan. 10

Thursday, Jan. 10

1.  We will be skating on Tuesday, Jan. 15 and on Friday, Jan. 25. Just a reminder that you already filled out the permission forms, so just prepare skates, helmet, etc. We will be taking the bus and I am sorry that there is no room for extra people.  If you want to drive, please join us!
2.  Hot dog, Science Project, Scholastic forks are due ASAP.  I have taken the time to explain Science projects in more depth. Many seem keen, but parents need to sign the form understanding that this project is largely extra-curricular. Please do not feel pressure to get involved, as it will take you and your child extra time and energy at home. On the flip side, it can provide some bonding time(and some great arguments!).  Projects should be typed and there is time during school and lunches to type.
3.  Math, pg 175- #1-12- Only do this if parents know how to help, or kids can do themselves. Otherwise, we will continue tomorrow.
4.  Spelling, Unit 11- test Friday.
5.  Bring a board game and leftover snacks for Friday's special day.

3.  There are still a few students who are struggling in Math, mainly because they still do not have quick recall of Math facts. Please drill your child tonight, and if you notice that he or she cannot answer within a second, then he/she needs to practise nightly.
